As a fan of football (or soccer) and in particular Liverpool FC follower there’s a certain song from the 60’s that means a lot to me. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was originally from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Carousel.” It was first sung by Christine Johnson, who played the character of Nettie Fowler in the original Broadway production.
However, the most famous and widely recognized version, especially in the context of football, is by Gerry and the Pacemakers. This version was released in 1963 and quickly became the anthem of Liverpool Football Club, and others around Europe, endearing the song to football fans. Other than sport it is also widely used in many countries as a message of resilience and unity.
I believe that song also encapsulates the journey to a successful affiliate marketing business. Starting an online business can feel like embarking on a daunting journey. But much like the stirring lyrics of the timeless anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the path of entrepreneurship is one best walked with support and guidance. This song, an emblem of unity and perseverance, perfectly encapsulates the journey of building an online business with the help of a mentor.
Walking Through Storms
“Walk on through the wind, Walk on through the rain,” these words from the song should resonate deeply with every entrepreneur. The early stages of setting up an online business are fraught with challenges – from technical hurdles to marketing strategy dilemmas. A mentor, much like a guiding light, helps you navigate these storms. They provide the wisdom of experience, helping you sidestep common pitfalls and offering advice when obstacles seem insurmountable.
Dreams Tossed and Blown
“Though your dreams be tossed and blown…” Starting an online business often means pursuing a dream, a vision uniquely yours. However, this journey isn’t always smooth. There are moments of doubt, times when your goals seem just out of reach. Here, a mentor is invaluable. They’re not just advisors; they’re your cheerleaders, believing in your dream even when you’re struggling to. They remind you of your potential and help realign your strategies, keeping your dreams well within reach.
Golden Sky and Sweet Silver Song
“After the rain comes a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark.” Every successful entrepreneur knows that after the challenges come the rewards. Your mentor is there to remind you that persistence pays off. The golden sky symbolizes the success and satisfaction that come from overcoming the trials of entrepreneurship. With a mentor, you learn to appreciate the journey and find joy in the small victories along the way.
Never Walking Alone
Lastly, the most powerful message of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is the assurance that you’re not alone on this journey. Building an online business can be isolating, but a mentor provides companionship, advice, and support. They’re someone who’s walked this path before and is now walking it with you, ensuring that through every challenge and triumph, you have someone to share it with.
The journey of creating an online business is a complex tapestry of challenges and victories. And just like the song’s enduring message, having a mentor means you have support, guidance, and the reassurance that no matter what, you’ll never walk alone. This journey, much like the song, is a testament to the power of hope, perseverance, and collaboration.

Hello Steve,
This was a great post..
I love this… So true…
Building an online business can be isolating, but a mentor provides companionship, advice, and support. They’re someone who’s walked this path before and is now walking it with you, ensuring that through every challenge and triumph, you have someone to share it with.
I truly believe having a mentor to help guide us is the way to go. I can’t wait to read more from you.
Thanks Sandy

Love the bold image, goes well with your bold message
The use of the You’ll never walk alone is brilliant!
Love the idea that “walking through storms” with a mentor’s wisdom to guide you can help us sidestep common pitfalls .
So inspiring! Well done and I know you be successful!

I love this! I am not familiar with this song, but after reading your blog post, I googled it! It is so true that “starting an online business often means pursuing a dream, a vision uniquely yours. However, this journey isn’t always smooth”. Thankfully we not only have a mentor who has been through it all, but a support team, and all of us students, going through it together! I joined your newsletter and look forward to hearing all about your journey!
Hi Alison. Many thanks for visiting and leaving comment. If I can be of any assistance to you antyime please reach out.
I must say I’m a Forest fan, but I admire LFC’s team, fans, and the culture they’ve built. It’s a great metaphor for online business – to have a community of people who care about us, support and guide us, and encourage us when it’s not easy is invaluable. We should all be looking for a community like that to work with.
Hi Nathan thanks for your visit and for leaving a comment. Forest are actually my most local team in the UK and I used to go to all home games when I was a teenagar and they were last in the top league in England.
I didn’t know this song! Thanks for introducing me to it, Steve!
I love the musical theme of your blog.
I know, at times, my mentor believes in me more than I believe in myself. I’ve held onto that, and it has a lot to do with why I haven’t given up.
Beautiful blog!

What you said is very true. When people don’t believe in themselves, having a mentor that believes in them can make a big difference. It can stop people from giving up way too early.
“To dream the impossible dream,” comes to mind but our mentors make the impossible into a real possibility!
Hi Steve,
Thank you for sharing, and well said it. One of the major reasons why people fail in any discipline is because of a lack of mentors. The best player in any sport feels has a good mentor. A mentor is a person, who believes in you, is that person who encourages you when you have no faith in yourself. To build an online business, you need a mentor. Looking forward to more relevant and useful info in this blog.
All the Best.
Steve,
Great post! Love how you wrote in contrasting the song with that of a mentor. It felt like you were telling a story. In my life mentors have been of great value however, the struggle has been finding a mentor that truly cares and wants to help you reach your goals. Many pay lip service and promise things like a politician. But when you truly find one it’s more valuable than gold and you will definitely not have to walk the journey alone.
When i think of this the image of the foot prints in the sand comes to mind. Where 2 are walking in the sand but there is only one set of foot prints. The image depicts the ultimate mentor Christ.
Thanks for the colorful reminder of the value of mentor.

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to leave a comment. Yes good mentors who really care can be a challange but I think I’ve found a couple who I am very happy to work with
Hi Steve
Really liked your post.
As an Aussie I am not much of a soccer fan but do have a soft spot for Liverpool, and their anthem.
Great you have woven songs into your post.
Curious to know if you have managed to find a mentor?
Something I am considering given the challenge in attending the training webinars and events live.
Regards
Neal
Hi Neal, Thanks for visiting and for leaving a comment, Yes I have a couple of very good mentors in Paul O’Mahoney at Rethink Academy and Dean Holland at Internet profits and their respective teams of coaches.
Great post, great anthem (even as a Norwich City fan LOL). Well done Steve, very informative.
Hi Martin. Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment.
Steve, great post and great analogy to the Liverpool song. I think our journey on affiliate marketing we aren’t alone because we’ve got Dean Holland but we’ve also all got each other as support and guidance. Thanks for the post. I look forward to the next one. Atif
Steve, what an Awesome post and how you used the song as a comparison to our journey as affiliate marketers is spot own! Looking back, I can see the struggles that I had when I started (There were a lot!) but since I have a mentor and caoches that truly want to see you succeed in every way, the road has been a WHOLE lot smoother. Now, thats not to say that we won’t have bumps here and there, however the Mountain that was in front of us now seems like a hill instead! Keep up the great work!
Hi Davis. Many thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I’ve got a couple of great mentors with very good coaches helping me move forwad,
Steve,
I love your analogy of never walking alone! That is most definitely true with Dean! He is there for us every step of the way. He is truly an incredible mentor, that will do whatever it takes to help us along our journey.
Here’s to much success!
Kelli

Hi Steve,
Your post connected my life’s past, present, and future all in one reading. That song is from my childhood. Until reading your post, I had forgotten what an impact it had on my past and now current situation. Mentorship and community support are definitely needed, not only to understand but to learn and thrive with affiliate marketing. I am glad to feel your support in this journey. Thank you for the inspiration!
All the best!

Hey Steve, this is both insightful and provocative. Insightful in so much as there is a wealth of intelligence in the community that can help and direct us and having coaching and mentoring add a layer of knowledge and experience that provides a perfect foundation to build from. Provocative in so much that admission that we need help, realising that we wont always get it right, owning the spills which are really lessons and acknowledging that any progress is progress, It so powerful. Thanks for your insights.
Cheers
Rose
